I read History of Art at the University of St Andrews, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Musuem and Gallery Studies. I then spent ten years working in communications in the visual arts and heritage sector for organisations like English Heritage, the National Galleries of Scotland and, latterly, the National Portrait Gallery, London. High-profile press campaigns included Mario Testino, David Hockney, Cecil Beaton, David Beckham by Sam Taylor Wood and the annual BP Portrait Award. Major projects included the opening of the Dean Gallery (now Modern Two), Edinburgh and The Regency at the National Portrait Gallery. I collaborated with broadcasters on major television series for BBC ONE, BBC TWO and Five.
As the Marketing Officer for contemporary art and craft gallery Smiths Row in Suffolk, I significantly raised the profile of the organisation at a local and national level. Since 2010 I have been providing copywriting and communications support to arts organisations, including UHArts,University of Hertfordshire; Smiths Row, Bury St Edmunds; The Henry Moore Foundation; and to individual artists and makers. From 2011-13 I was a Trustee of Courtyard Arts in Hertford, involved in all aspects of running this busy community arts centre. I am also a published arts feature writer and blogger.
